5. Determine the equation of an ellipse that has these characteristics: V(3,6) and V(3,-2) and length of opposite axis is 10 units. Hints: First, find the center. Next, start building the equation.
6. Determine the equation of a hyperbola that has these characteristics: V(±4,0) and F(±5,0). Hints: First, start building the equation. Next, use the focal formula to determine the missing information to complete the equation.
7. Go to http://www.mathguide.com/lessons/ConicSections.html and read the section called “Identifying Conic Sections in General Form.” After examining the examples and the flowchart, do three problems at http://www.mathguide.com/cgi-bin/quizmasters/CSi.cgi
